What is a dental implant?
It is, quite simply, the closest thing to a replacement tooth! It is an artificial tooth root made of titanium that is gently placed into the space where a tooth used to be. This fixture is then covered with a precision-made and natural-looking porcelain restoration to restore your smile.
Dental implants can:
- Replace one or more teeth without affecting bordering teeth.
- Support a bridge and eliminate the need for a denture.
- Provide support for a denture, making it more secure and comfortable.
Who can have dental implants?
Before starting any implant treatment a thorough examination of your mouth will be carried out, taking appropriate x-rays and scans, to see if you are suitable for implant treatment. Not everybody will be, as it can be dependent on the condition of the bone in the area of the planned implants. On the rare occasion there is not enough bone or it is not healthy enough, treatment may not be able to proceed without additional treatment such as bone grafting which can also be carried out at the Practice.
