Claire was born in North Wales and graduated from Manchester University in 1999. She went straight into general practice, enjoying all aspects of dentistry. She was enticed down to Cornwall by Donal O’Halloran in 2003 with the promise of working and living in paradise-otherwise known as Penryn.
Claire has 14 years’ experience of working within the private sector which allows her to work by her philosophy of relationship based, patient centered and comprehensive care dentistry. She believes in pain free treatment, clinical excellence and a superb service too.
She has done extensive post graduate training and has achieved post graduate certificates and diplomas in a number of areas such as periodontology, restorative dentistry and anxiety control and sedation. She completed her Diploma in Restorative Dentistry at the prestigious Eastman Dental Institute, London, 2009, being awarded with a distinction in her final year patient case reports. This qualification has provided her with the skills to solve and treat all aspects of dentistry from assessment of ‘the bite’ (occlusion) to more complex crowns, root fillings and difficult denture cases.
In 2013 she started a Master’s degree in Clinical Periodontology (management of severe gum disease). It is this area she feels particularly passionate about and is trying to embark on ways to work with local GPs and specialist nurses to help care for patients especially those who have diabetes, family history of severe gum disease or smoke heavily.
Claire says that in Penryn Dental Practice “we believe in a holistic approach to health care incorporating local resources, so that our patients can feel confident in the knowledge that we are doing our best to care for their needs. In a county like Cornwall where there are few or no specialists available whom to refer, it is so important to screen and target specific patient needs early to prevent costly and difficult treatments later on”.
Claire is a member of the British Society of Periodontology (BSP) and the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentists (BACD). She values and respects both the health and beauty wishes of the patients and listens to what you want to achieve. She has recently completed some training in the use of Botox and injectable fillers at the Harley Academy in London.
She is a committee member of the local Cornwall Dental practitioners group who arrange world class speakers to Cornwall and is a huge advocate for continuing professional development.
Claire did indeed fall in love with Cornwall, marrying a local yacht surveyor and now has 2 beautiful daughters. She resides over on the north coast, enjoys surfing, sailing, and running along the coastal path.
