Sean O’Conaill

Cork born Sean qualified from University College Cork in 1991. He has over 25 years’ experience in dentistry both in general practice and hospital based care.  Improving and maintaining dental health has been the focus since then.

Seans aim since qualifying is to help everybody with their own preventative care and to improve dental health as part of their own health and wellbeing. A strive for and understanding of the benefits of healthy teeth and smile for life is part of his patient centred approach to dentistry. Sean has the training and skill sets to provide a vast range of treatments from a simple filling to complex root treatments or implant treatments combining an artistry and scientific based approach to his work. It also means a desire to further develop the practice and team when teeth do need to be fixed. Practice and staff development is key to providing this treatment tailored to patient’s needs.

For Sean further learning is an important part in developing skills and understanding. This started with the Irish Dental Council Conservative Dentistry Prize as an undergraduate. This learning continued with a Clinical Assistant post in the Restorative Department, St Georges Hospital, London and added to with a completion of Certificate Course in Restorative Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Institute in London.

A real commitment to further learning led to full time education. Sean completed his Masters of Science Degree which was awarded with distinction by UCL again at the Eastman Dental Institute in London.

This further learning is maintained by numerous courses, conferences and mentoring in USA, Italy, France, Austria and the UK.

Sean spent some time as Clinical Supervisor at the Peninsular Dental School, passing on some of that knowledge. He is the chair of Cornwall Dental Practitoners which organises postgraduate courses in Cornwall.

Other than teeth, it’s boats, bikes and beaches in Cornwall. What better place could you be in?
